Is It Worth The Time And Effort To Market On Twitter?

By Helen Freeman

Software tools to automate Twitter marketing tasks were being heavily promoted a couple of ago. Twitter was considered as a good new way of getting a list of people whom you could target to market your products. Cutting through the hype, just what kind of results can you look forward to after utilizing these Twitter marketing tools? In today's article, we are going to be talking about Twitter marketing and if it is even worth it for you to use it.

Anxious to raise my product sales, I went ahead and began Twitter marketing to create a large list of followers hoping to turn them into buyers. I ended up buying and programs that would get me followers and programs that would essentially advertise my products for me. By the time I'd finished, I'd paid for something like eight programs to do some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.

I paide for a program that would automatically follow people for me in an attempt to have them follow me back on Evolv. If anyone was not following me, I had another program that would automatically delete them from my to-follow list. This way I could be following other people who might follow me reciprocally. Amongst other software I got hold of, there was one tool which automatically tweeted a Multi Level Marketing blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog.

I must say that the combined effect of using all these programs together produced superb results as each program did as advertised. But as soon as it appeared that I wasn't pulling in any money, my initial exuberance was soon squashed. Daily I would post roughly ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter too. Wanting to increase the number of daily posts, I found a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully gain more followers.

Well, here are my results: After three years using these methods, I had gained nearly 10,000 Twitter followers. I bet you think this is an impressive number, but let's go a bit further: During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on over fifteen thousand blog posts in my Twitter account.

My blog posts showing on Twitter was the only sort of advertising for that blog I did and to test the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Well, you can't say that 3 years isn't long enough to obtain decent results but using Twitter I just got 2 - 4 visitors each day to my blog. My affiliate earnings from 2 sales was $47 and to that you can add $8.65 Adsense revenue - very dismal all around!

Even with about 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not adequate to generate money marketing with Twitter. The bottom line is that the money I've generated is not enough to cover the cost of the Twitter programs I paid for to start with. So in my opinion, though there may be good ways to promote on Twitter, investing in the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
